The album title already gives it away: Document 6 are doing Grind, and that’s already in the tenth year of the band’s history. Obviously reason enough to release a decade album and celebrate yourself a little. Eleven pieces of music were composed for this, which are dealt with in just over ten minutes. Sporty…

Document 6 come from Aachen and have already released six long players in the last decade of their musical career. Apart from the musical heaviness, the three band members Frank, Rob and Rolf attach great importance to socially relevant and above all political lyrics. Among other things, anti-femism and the scene-related “Tough Guy Hardcore Attitude” are discussed and criticized in an extremely direct way. Strong and unfortunately necessary. This shows once again that grind should not just be dismissed as dull banging and that a look behind the scenes is definitely worthwhile.

Document 6 kommen aus Aachen und haben in der letzten Dekade ihres musikalischen Wirkens bereits sechs Longplayer herausgebracht. Abgesehen von der musikalischen Härte legen die drei Bandmitglieder Frank, Rob und Rolf viel Wert auf gesellschaftsrelevante und vor allem politische Texte. So wird das unter anderem Antifemismus und der szenebezogenen  „Tough Guy Hardcore Attitüde“ auf eine äußerst direkte Art und Weise thematisiert, kritisiert. Stark und bedauerlicherweise notwendig. Das zeigt wiedermal, dass Grind nicht nur als stumpfes Geballer abgetan werden sollte und sich ein Blick hinter die Kulissen durchaus lohnt.

Musically, GrinDECADE can be described as uncompromising Grindcore, which, especially vocally, found a certain further development compared to the previous albums. This mainly affects the depth of the singing… the growls… the grunts. Ah, you know. The grindesque style of singing. Where the 2021 grindcore gasmus was still more core-heavy, the current record was more oriented towards the death metal of the 1990s. All in all, GrindDECADE has become a pretty tough chunk that will find fans within the death and grind scene. I like the disc because you can tell that Document 6 are trying to interpret Grind even more uncompromisingly and to position themselves clearly with their lyrics.If you want to find out more about Document 6, about the interesting origin of the band name or about lyrics and merch, you can do so on their band homepage. Musikalisch kann GrinDECADE als kompromisslosen Grindcore bezeichnen, der vor allem gesanglich im Vergleich zu den Vorgängeralben eine gewisse Weiterentwicklung fand. Das betrifft vor allem die Tiefe des Gesang… der Growls… des Gegrunze. Ach, ihr wisst schon. Des grindesken Gesangstils. Wo das 2021er Grindcoregasmus noch eher -corelastig gehalten wurde, durfte sich die aktuelle Platte eher am Deathmetal der 1990er Jahre orientieren. In der Endsumme ist GrindDECADE ein ganz schön harter Brocken geworden, der innerhalb der Death- und Grindszene Anhänger*innen finden wird. Ich mag die Scheibe, weil man merkt, dass Document 6 versuchen, Grind noch kompromissloser zu interpretieren und sich mittels ihrer Texte klar zu positionieren.

Arrgh, fuck, kill! A rattle, a grunt and off you go. The musical game resembles a notorious gurgling with rattling and din. The instrumentation is inspired by close-knit staccato riffs, while the vocals are served as dog barking in attack mode or as chainsaw mouthwash cure-affine gargling, as if the devil had holy water sprayed in his face and screamed his heart out. Song titles like “Arm Chopper Oil Refining Seasoning” alone sometimes take longer to read than the songs last. Harmony is flagellated and dismembered in 30 seconds until heads burst open and intestines squirt. Who needs an anesthetic when DOCUMENT 6 lets you hear “nail diarrhea”. With this destructive, nihilistic oeuvre, the victims jump like lemmings over the abyss or eat finely selected recipes such as “concrete mixer salad dressing” as a hip extra against anti-feminism and patriarchy. This makes the pent-up hatred explode like the gut after 7 days of constipation.

Arrgh, Fuck, Kill! Ein Röcheln, ein Grunzen und ab dafür. Das musikalische Spiel gleicht einem notorischen Gegurgel mit Geknatter und Getöse. Die Instrumentierung ist beseelt von engmaschigen Stakaktoriffs, während die Vocals mal als Hundegebell im Angriffsmodus oder als Kettensägenmundspülungskur-affines Gegurgel serviert wird, als bekäme der Teufel Weihwasser ins Gesicht gespritzt und schreit sich den Leib aus der Seele.
Songtitel wie “Armabhackmaschinenölverfeinerungsgewürz” alleine sind manchmal länger zu lesen, als die Songs andauern. Da wird in 30 Sekunden Harmonie gegeißelt und zerstückelt, bis Köpfe aufplatzen und Gedärme spritzen. Wer braucht schon eine Narkose, wenn DOCUMENT 6 “Nägeldiarrhoe” ertönen lassen. Mit diesem destruktiven, nihilistischen Gesamtwerk springen die Opfer wie Lemminge über den Abgrund oder essen fein erlesene Rezepte wie “Betonmischersalatdressing” als hippes Extra gegen Antifeminismus und das Patriarchat. Das lässt den angestauten Hass explodieren wie den Darm nach 7 Tage Obstipation.

Death Metal can be fun too! Document 6 from Aachen play an insane mixture of Death Metal and Grindcore. For their tenth anniversary they are now releasing an EP that contains eleven songs but only has a playing time of ten minutes! You never get to a minute and a half per song. “Asbestos IV Line Breathing Incubator Device” is the shortest track at twenty-four seconds. It’s taken me longer to read the title properly, haha! crazy! Of course, the exaggeratedly fast blasting is kind of noisy, but it’s remarkable that it’s all played frighteningly well and tightly.

Death Metal kann auch lustig sein! Document 6 aus Aachen spielen eine wahnwitzige Mischung aus Death Metal und Grindcore. Zum zehnjährigen Jubiläum hauen sie nun eine EP raus, die elf Songs enthält, aber gerademal auf zehn Minuten Spielzeit kommt! Dabei kommt man pro Song nie auf anderthalb Minuten. „Asbestinfusionsschlauchbeatmungsinkubatorgerät“ ist mit vierundzwanzig Sekunden der kürzeste Track. Ich brauche schon länger, um den Titel fehlerfrei zu lesen, haha! Abgefahren! Natürlich ist das übertrieben schnelle Geblaste schon irgendwie Krach, bemerkenswert ist aber, dass das alles beängstigend gut und tight gespielt ist.

Where other grindcore bands use a drum machine, Document 6 have a flesh-and-blood drummer in ex-Kadath drummer Rolf König, who more than knows his craft. As chaotic as the music sounds, the sarcastic lyrics are just as funny. I could laugh my ass off just reading the song titles! Death Metal doesn’t always have to be dead serious, it can also be fun! Here we go!

Wo andere Grindcore-Bands einen Drumcomputer benutzen, haben Document 6 mit Ex-Kadath-Trommler Rolf König einen Schlagzeuger aus Fleisch und Blut, der sein Handwerk mehr als versteht. So chaotisch wie die Musik klingt, so witzig sind auch die sarkastischen Texte. Allein beim Lesen der Songtitel könnte ich mich halbtot lachen! Death Metal muss nicht immer bierernst sein, sondern kann auch mal Spaß machen!  Auf geht´s!

And the wild journey that Document 6 began in 2012 continues. After seeing one or two musicians come and go, they decided to continue as a trio. In October 2021 they released what is now their fourth album via Endwar Records, and as they celebrate their tenth anniversary this year, they thought about hammering in a few more songs. No sooner said than done and bang, there’s an EP with a meaningful name.The song titles have it all. Names like Asbestinfusionsschlauchbeatmungsinkubatorgerät, Gehörknöchelschraubenreparaturset or Armabhackmaschinenölverfeinerungsgewürz speak for themselves 😀.Musically, of course, you don’t take any prisoners and these ten minutes don’t leave any room for prisoners. Rolf and his friends already shone in the eighties, but musically this trio goes in a completely different direction. Vorschlaghammernasenjob sounds like the music for such a title has to sound like. Here they rattle, here they grunt and then the grinding trowel is taken out. Before that there are some staccato riffs. But it’s not really catchy. That sounds completely different with Kreissägenblutwurst. Choppy banging with a grind attitude. Very nice. Growls, screams and other noises refine the fun. Full on twelve. That’s the way it has to be. Asbestinfusionsschlauchbeatmungsinkubatorgerät is hardly pronounced, since the song is already over. Of course you don’t take prisoners with Nägeldiarrhoe and in the end you realize that the song is much too quiet.This is where it gets really awesome, because here you can hear the good old Napalm Death, especially in the beginning. The rather catchy title Gehörknöchelschraubenreparaturset doesn’t allow for anything else. In less than 45 seconds you destroy everything. The motto is to smash everything.

Und weiter geht die wilde Reise, die Document 6 im Jahre 2012 begonnen haben. Nachdem man den einen oder anderen Musiker kommen und gehen gesehen hat, entschloss man sich, als Trio weiterzumachen. Im Oktober 2021 haute man das mittlerweile vierte Album via Endwar Records heraus, und da man dieses Jahr das zehnjährige Jubiläum feiert, hat man sich überlegt, noch ein paar Songs einzuhämmern. Gesagt, getan und zack, schon gibt es eine EP mit einem sinnigen Namen.
Auch die Songtitel haben es in sich. Namen wie Asbestinfusionsschlauchbeatmungsinkubatorgerät, Gehörknöchelschraubenreparaturset oder Armabhackmaschinenölverfeinerungsgewürz sprechen für sich 😀.
Musikalisch macht man natürlich keine Gefangene und diese knappen zehn Minuten lassen keinen Platz für Gefangene. Rolf und seine Freunde haben ja schon in den Achtzigern geglänzt, aber musikalisch geht dieses Trio in eine ganz andere Richtung. Vorschlaghammernasenjob klingt so, wie die Musik zu solch einem Titel eben klingen muss. Hier wird geröchelt, hier wird gegrunzt und dann wird die Grindkelle herausgeholt. Vorher gibt es einige Stakkatoriffs zu hören. Geht aber nicht wirklich so richtig ins Ohr. Das klingt bei Kreissägenblutwurst schon ganz anders. Abgehacktes Geballer mit Grindattitüde. Sehr schön. Growls, Screams und sonstige Geräusche verfeinern den Spaß. Voll auf die Zwölf. So muss es sein.
Asbestinfusionsschlauchbeatmungsinkubatorgerät ist kaum ausgesprochen, da ist der Song auch schon vorbei. Bei Nägeldiarrhoe macht man natürlich auch keine Gefangene und am Ende stellt man fest, dass der Song doch viel zu leise ist.
Jetzt wird es richtig geil, denn hier hört man die guten, alten Napalm Death heraus, besonders am Anfang. Der recht eingängige Titel Gehörknöchelschraubenreparaturset lässt auch nichts anderes zu. In knappen 45 Sekunden zerstört man alles. Alles kaputtkloppen, lautet die Devise.

Especially when they get to work in a relatively playful way and then sing over slow parts like in chainsaw mouthwash. The song ends in total chaos, of course. That’s how it should be.After ten minutes you’re really exhausted, but you really feel like letting yourself be destroyed again. But if you don’t really get into grindcore, you should keep your hands off it.Body blood squeezing steamroller is also an example of how devastating Grindcore can be or the very varied arm chopping machine oil refinement spice with clean parts, even if the song only lasts 30 seconds. At the end the grinder is skilfully turned on again with a T-beam facial massage and lubricated with elements of Death Metal.Ten years, no end in sight and that’s a good thing. Grind on!

Besonders wenn sie relativ verspielt ans Werk gehen und dann über langsame Parts singen wie bei Kettensägenmundspülungskur. Der Song endet natürlich im totalen Chaos. So soll es sein.
Nach zehn Minuten ist man auch ordentlich fertig, hat aber durchaus Lust, sich noch einmal zerstören lassen. Wer mit Grindcore aber nicht wirklich etwas anfangen kann, der sollte die Finger davon lassen.
Körperblutauspressdampfwalze ist auch so ein Beispiel, wie vernichtend Grindcore sein kann oder das mit cleanen Parts versehene und sehr abwechslungsreiche Armabhackmaschinenölverfeinerungsgewürz, auch wenn der Song nur 30 Sekunden geht. Am Ende wirft man noch einmal gekonnt die Grindmaschine bei T-Trägergesichtsmassage an und schmiert diese mit Elementen aus dem Death Metal.
Zehn Jahre, kein Ende in Sicht und das ist auch gut so. Grind on!

Conclusion
Document 6 from Aachen just do what they can. Grindcore, short and sweet and with Death Metal elements. There is also a fair amount of sarcasm and humour. Chaos reigns, but these guys have it under control.
